Linda L. (Herncjar) Schlacter, 67, of Morton, died peacefully at 3:39 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2015, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria.

She was born March 30, 1947, in Washington to Edwin and Margaret (Baldwin) Herncjar. She grew up on a farm in Secor and began her faith journey as a member of the “Joy Girls” with her sisters, a singing group led by her mother, through the United Methodist Church of Secor.

She continued her faith as a member of Eureka United Methodist Church. She also worked in the family restaurant, The Kozy Corner Café, throughout high school.

Linda graduated from Eureka High School in 1965 and married David Schlacter on July 9, 1967, in Eureka. The family moved to Morton, where Linda worked at Dietrich Manufacturing Co. for 47 years as a steel buyer.

Surviving are one daughter, Stacy Schlueter of Dunlap; two grandchildren, Isobel and Izik Schlueter; one brother, Walter Herncjar of El Cajon, California; and four sisters, Peggy Malcom of Morton, Marjorie Netherton of Congerville, Mary Shaffer of Springfield, and Janet Cobus of St. Michael, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Linda’s passion in life was a love of animals. She provided a loving home for many dogs throughout her life who gave her many hours of love and companionship. She especially loved her first bulldog, Brutus, who was constantly by her side as well as her current dogs, Sophie and Zoey, who provided a calming joy during her long illness.

Her daughter, sisters and brother remember her as a loving, kind and extremely giving person who loved her family, adored her grandchildren and had a strong faith in God.

The family would like to thank OSF Hospice Services, Alpha Care CNA, Joann and the Hospice Home staff for their kind, dedicated care.

Cremation will be accorded. A public memorial service will not be held.

Ludwig Mortuary in Morton is handling cremation arrangements.

The family requests memorial gifts be made in Linda’s memory to the ALS Society or to the Peoria County Animal Protection Services.
