The National Day of Dance for Your Health will be held noon – 2:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Northwoods Mall in Peoria.

OSF Saint Francis Medical Center and OSF Women in the Know want you to get your groove on, all in an effort to create a healthier community.    The National Day of Dance for Your Health will be held noon – 2:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at Northwoods Mall in Peoria.     This is the first year that OSF Saint Francis will participate in this nationwide event.   Day of Dance is a program of the Spirit of Women Hospital Network held in 70 communities and attended by more than 70,000 people across the United States. This is the 11th   Day of Dance and is the biggest dance party in the U.S. to increase overall health for women.   The day will feature performances of clogging, tap, hip hop, cheer and ballroom dance with the  opportunity to learn some new moves through instructor demonstrations and encouragement.    There will be heart health education, health benefits of dance information and fun prizes/   Day of Dance educates consumers on a variety of cardiovascular conditions and overall health.    When done on a regular basis as a form of exercise, dancing can burn as many calories as  swimming, walking, or riding a bike and can help control weight, decrease blood pressure, make  you feel more energetic, and increase coordination and muscle strength.    The Northwoods Mall event is free and open to the public.
