Tonight's Class 3A LaSalle Sectional championship game has a lot to offer.

The Sweet 16 matchup between Morton (29-3) and Galesburg (27-7) features highly-accomplished girls basketball programs led by coaching titans with a history of postseason success.

The contest tips off at 7 p.m. at LaSalle-Peru High School's Sellett Gymnasium.

Although they have not met in a sectional final since 2007, Bob Becker's Potters and Evan Massey's Silver Streaks have developed a good regional rivalry that meets annually.

Morton, ranked No. 7 in the final Associated Press Class 3A state poll, won 61-45 over Galesburg on Jan. 24 as part of the Streaks' Martin Luther King Jr. Classic.

The Potters have won 16 of their last 17 games, including a 52-34 win over Mendota (25-4) Monday at the same site in the sectional semifinals. They have prevailed by an average of 27.3 points per game in the postseason.

Galesburg is on a five-game winning streak, including a 68-51 victory against Richwoods (24-8) Monday at LaSalle after Morton prevailed.

Morton, playing it its sixth sectional title game in the last nine seasons, owns a pair of IHSA fourth-place state finishes in Becker's tenure. Among five state trophies the Streaks have achieved under Massey is a second-place award.

The winner moves on to Monday's Romeoville Super-sectional at Lewis University. The opponent will be either Aurora Rosary or Rockford Lutheran.
