1955 - 2016
Dr. George Bendall Helden, DDS, 61, of Grafton, Ill., passed quietly at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at home with his family around him. After an almost three-year battle with cancer, Jesus took him home.
He came into this world April 2, 1955, in Pekin to Rudolph and Mary Francis Helden. Married to his soul mate, Renae Peterson. They were blessed with two daughters, Rachel Brady and Lindsey (Derrick) Richardson; and two grandchildren, Levi and Iris.
Also surviving are a sister, Carol (Don) Nolett of Gloversville, N.Y., and their two sons and families.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rudolph Helden Jr.
George was a graduate of the University of Illinois College of Dentistry, Chicago and Mayo Graduate School of Medicine, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency, Rochester, Minn. He practiced for 29 years in the partnership of Crammond and Helden, LTD of Alton and Edwardsville.
George was passionate about his work, education, staying active, exploring the outdoors, spending time with his family, and in his relationship with God. He had a strong yet gentle spirit and is loved by many.
A service to celebrate his life will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Eden Church, 903 N. Second St., Edwardsville, Ill. Doors will open at 8 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Nature Institute, www.thenatureinstitute.org www.treehousewildlifecenter.com www.threeriverscommunityfarm.com, TreeHouse Wildlife Center, or Three Rivers Community Farm to support children’s learning, eagle rescues, and local organic produce; all causes he believed in.
