1923 - 2017

Matthew Antonio, 93, of Denver, Colo., a World War II veteran, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2017.

Matt was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Pekin to Christ and Gramatiki Antonio.

Matt was a Captain in the Army Air Corp., serving as a navigator on the B-24. He attended the University of Illinois, receiving his Masters degree in Journalism. In 1953, he married the love of his life, Edith (Ripper) Antonio. He went to work in 1953 for Texaco Inc. as controller, retiring in 1992.

Matt loved spending time outdoors fishing, camping and skiing.

Matt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; brother, Johnnie; twin brother, Gus; and stepdaughter, Joan.

Matt is survived by his sons, Gary (Sandi) Wrhel of Story, Wyo., and Garret (Beverly) Wrhel of West Peoria; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A private graveside service will be held for family.
