WASHINGTON — Five Points Washington closed this morning and a boil order was issued because of a water-main break.

"The city will be shutting off the water at 8 a.m. Due to the water shutdown, we will close at 8 a.m. until further notice (because) our locker rooms, bathrooms and water fountains will be unavailable," according to a Facebook post from Five Points.

A boil order was issued for Five Points, the Washington fire station and the Washington Church of Christ.

There's no time estimate for when the break is expected to be repaired.

The break is in a cast-iron water main along North Wilmor Road near the Washington Community High School tennis courts.

"The city’s cast iron water mains were originally installed in the 1920s and account for a disproportionate amount of water main breaks, as should be expected for mains that are nearing a century in the ground," according to a Facebook post from the city.

Washington's public works department is working on a long-term cast-iron water main replacement schedule that coordinates with sewer and road work.

Five Points has a fitness center and pool along with meeting and banquet rooms. It also houses the Washington District Library, which closed because of the break.
