The Pekin Community High School Noteables show choir is presenting two fundraiser shows this Friday and Saturday that will offer sneak peaks of its performances in competitions this season.

The Noteables will take the stage at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11 and Saturday, Jan. 12 at F.M. Peterson Theater. Tickets cost $10 per person and are available from any Noteables member. They may also be purchased during school hours at the PCHS Branch Finance Office or at the door the evening of the performances. The cost of the purchased ticket also includes dinner. Avanti’s spaghetti, salad, bread, drinks and dessert will be served in the cafeteria from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Leigh Grizzard, PCHS director of vocal music and Noteables director, said this fundraiser requires the biggest effort of all their fundraisers.

One new feature this year is the Junior High School Festival Chorus that will perform before the Noteables’ show on Saturday. Grizzard is thrilled to have them. She wanted to give students from all PCHS feeder schools the opportunity to sing in a choir. There are 46 students participating from Broadmoor Junior High School, Edison Junior High School, Georgetowne Middle School and South Pekin Grade School.

“I’m looking for ways to recruit for our (PCHS) music program,” Grizzard said. “The most unique program we have in vocals is Noteables. I want the junior high kids to know about the program before they get to high school. I want to keep building the program, and by doing that, we will continue to make music for the community.”

In addition to the whole group show choir competition there are also solo show competitions. Both evenings will showcase solo competitors who will give the audience a preview of their selections. On Friday, Abby Williamson, senior, and Chayla Isbell, freshmen, will take the stage. Paige Calvert, senior, and Jae McGhghy, sophomore, will perform on Saturday.

Grizzard described their show this year as a “combination of all genres of music.” The 61 member group will perform classic rock, pop, musical theater and more. There are 32 singers and dancers, 14 members of the instrumental combination and 15 stage crew members. Leigh Grizzard's husband, Mark Grizzard, is the assistant director.

“There’s lots of choreography with very fluid movements,” she said. “I guess you could say it’s Noteables in motion.”

The students have worked hard practicing their numbers, and Grizzard said she cannot wait to see it all come together.

“I’m looking forward to them getting comfortable,” she said. “I want to see how they gel on stage. I want to see how they react to the audience and how the audience reacts to them. These preview shows help calm their nerves with a friendly audience before our competition season.”

Sophomore Hunter Hawkins likes that the preview show is a good way for Noteables to see all their hard work pay off. He also sees this show as a good way to make younger students aware of the show choir option at PCHS.

“It’s kind of like our first competition show because we are performing in front of a big audience on stage,” he said. “My favorite vocal number is 'Slight.' It’s a ballad. My favorite dance number is 'Dashboard.' I really like the mix of music. I started theater this summer so I like the musical theater number we do. I really like what (Grizzard) has done this year with all the songs.”
