The Tazewell County Board during Wednesday’s meeting approved a resolution authorizing application for public transportation financial assistance.
The purpose of applying for the grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation is to offset certain operating deficits and administrative expenses of a system providing public transit services in non-urban areas. While participating in the operating assistance program, Tazewell County will provide all required local matching funds.
“We need to be forward-thinking and invest in the future,” said Tazewell County Board Chairman David Zimmerman. “This is going to happen whether we participate or not, so I’m for this. I know it’s a significant amount of money, $50,000 a year for three years, but I think it’s a worthy investment.”
In other business, the County Board approved a letter of agreement with the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission, which will be project manager for the regional aerial photography acquisition project. The project will allow various Tazewell County municipalities to participate in a flyover that will result in three-inch resolution imagery of properties throughout the county. Also meeting board approval were an amendment to Title XV, Chapter 157 of the Tazewell County Code, an expenditure of up to $45,314.25 to support and assist in recycling collection programs for 14 rural villages and townships during 2019, and a motion to fill a vacant law librarian position.
