A Washington man allegedly sought sex in online contact with an Indiana police officer posing as a 14-year-old girl.
Dennis Mitchell, 55, no longer works as a custodian at Washington Middle School, a spokeswoman there said Friday.
The fact that he did work at “an Illinois grade school” played a role in the decision by police in Petersburg, Ind., to issue an arrest warrant on Jan. 11, the police department stated in a news release.
Mitchell was charged in Pike County Circuit Court on Feb. 6 with child solicitation for sexual intercourse, punishable by up to six years in prison. He posted a $15,000 cash bond for his release pending his next court hearing on Tuesday.
The department’s news release stated Mitchell made online contact with what he thought was a girl in the department’s sting operation designed to find child predators. His arrest came after he engaged in several sexually explicit conversations with the decoy over several weeks.
