It was an extra special win Monday for the Pekin baseball team.
Six of the Dragons’ nine hits went for extra bases during their 6-3 victory over East Peoria in a Mid-Illini Conference game at EastSide Centre.
Nathan Righi hit two home runs and Chase Roepenack had a double, triple and two RBI for Pekin (11-5, 6-4). The other extra-base hits for the Dragons were doubles by Jack Kuethe and Cole Russell.
Righi has been hitting the cover off the ball all season. Roepenack has just started to join that party.
“Chase has been seeing the ball better lately,” said Pekin coach Larry Davis.
East Peoria (5-12, 2-8) took an early lead against Pekin on a two-run homer by Chase Ulrich in the bottom of the first inning.
The Dragons went ahead for good in the fourth inning, scoring twice to move in front 3-2.
It was the Righi show the rest of the way. He hit a solo homer in the fifth inning and a two-run homer in the seventh inning.
Riley Bradshaw, who pitched the last four innings in relief of starter Bailey Antonio, earned the victory. Bradshaw gave up one run and four hits.
East Peoria outhit Pekin 10-9. Payton Bradford (two runs, two hits) and Brogan Stewart (two hits) joined Ulrich on the list of the Raiders’ top batters.
Starter Jonah Ziegler-Harris (four innings, five hits, three runs) was the losing pitcher. Ulrich pitched the final three innings in relief of Ziegler-Harris.
