WASHINGTON — Drenching rains and wet, muddy grounds have thrown a damper on Washington Good Neighbor Days festivities, which continue through Sunday.
Gone for the entire five-day festival are the main stage, beer tent and pony rides.
Washington Chamber of Commerce officials have been making daily decisions on what can still be held on the grounds off Washington Road. Among the daily casualties was a first-time movie night on opening night Wednesday.
"These are not easy decisions," said Chevie Kriete, the chamber's executive director. "We've spent hours discussing what can still happen and how to make Good Neighbor Days a fun family and community experience. Unfortunately, there's nothing we can do about the weather.
"The carnival is going strong — it's on pavement — and there's lot of good food. So far, attendance has been strong."
Fireworks shows at 9:30 p.m. Friday and 9:30 p.m. Saturday were still on as of Friday morning.

Kriete said the Kidz Got Talent show, scheduled for Saturday on the main stage, could be moved to another venue.
There's a chance the movie night, featuring "The Secret Life of Pets," will be rescheduled at an outdoor site in conjunction with the Washington Park District, and several Washington bars and restaurants are offering Good Neighbor Days specials this weekend because of the loss of the festival beer tent.
But the festival's pony rides won't be back until next year.
"We're so disappointed about not having pony rides," Kriete said.
The popular children's attraction was not at the festival last year because of a lack of room on the grounds.
More of the grounds had to be used for parking because a large paved parking lot to the east of the grounds — being used temporarily by Uftring Chevrolet — wasn't available.
The festival is held on John Bearce Companies property at 1800 Washington Road. The Chamber of Commerce organizes and presents the festival, which is the organization's major annual fundraiser.
