SOUTH PEKIN — A Pekin man is dead after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning in South Pekin.

Chad E. Williams, 42, of Pekin was pronounced dead at 9:37 a.m. at OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood.

Tazewell County Sheriff's deputies were called to the intersection of Illinois Route 29 and Main Street at 6:12 a.m. on a report of an accident.

A witness told deputies Williams was headed westbound on Main Street and was stopped at the stop sign waiting to cross Route 29 to Hurt Road. He drove into the path of a northbound Ford F-250 pickup truck and was struck on the driver's side door, tossing both vehicles into the ditch.

Williams was trapped in a Hyundai Accent and, after extrication, was taken to Saint Francis, where he "had a rapid decline in his condition while being treated at the hospital, and despite aggressive resuscitative efforts," Harwood said.

Williams suffered blunt force trauma injuries from the impact. His toxicology tests are pending at this time.  There will be no autopsy.

The second vehicle's occupants only received minor injuries, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. His name has not been released.
