PEORIA — A positive COVID-19 test from Tazewell County was the only new case in the Tri-County area within the past 24 hours.
There are currently three cases in Tazewell, three in Woodford and six in Peoria County. All are recovering at home except for two from Tazewell who are hospitalized.
While there are only 12 cases reported in the Tri-County area, there are several more cases being treated in area hospitals that were diagnosed in other other counties, said Monica Hendrickson, administrator of the Peoria City County Health Department during Friday's COVID-19 press briefing.
“They are not residents in our county,” she said. “We recognize our healthcare systems are impressive here locally, and their reach is very broad. Some of our rural communities do send their patients here for a higher level of care. While we are aware of them, we don’t share those numbers.”
Tomorrow there will be a drive thru COVID-19 testing at the McLean County Fairgrounds for central Illinois residents who who have symptoms with a fever. They must work in healthcare or be a first responder, be over the age of 65 and have underlying conditions.
The pilot program is being sponsored by the McLean County Health Department in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It will continue daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or until the daily allotment of tests runs out, about 250 tests per day, according to a press release issued by the McLean County Health Department.
No appointment is necessary, but attendees must show proof of eligibility.
A Bradley University student, who was participating in the Semester Abroad Program has tested positive for COVID-19, school officials announced Friday. That student, the university said, was not on the campus in Peoria this spring semester and has been self-isolation since returning from abroad. Reports are the student is doing well and their symptoms are improving.
