Marguerite Sutton, 99, of East Peoria, passed away on Jan. 23, 2019, at St. Frances Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. She was born June 28, 1919, to Edgar and Nettie Hollis in Oakford, Illinois.
Marguerite was an active member of her community. She had several organizations that she was very passionate about and very active in. Some of her achievements were American Business Women Assoc. where she was president and woman of the year. She was a member of Lady of St. Jude’s for 10 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church of East Peoria for 65 years. She also was a member of United Methodist Women and a board member of the Cunningham Children’s Home in Urbana Illinois. Even with all of these accomplishments she considered being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, her greatest achievement of all.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Nettie Hollis ; husband, Nathan Sutton; brothers, Clinton Hollis and Kenneth Hollis and sister Mary Jane Smith. Marguerite is survived by her son, Rick (Sandie) Sutton; grandchildren, Kimberly Newnam, Eric Sutton and fiancée, Nicole Fehr, Amy (Jason) Moser-Harrison and Andy Moser; nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A private graveside service will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Petersburg, Illinois, on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019. A memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church of East Peoria, 154 E. Washington St., East Peoria IL 61611 on Jan. 27, at 1 p.m.
