Peoria Chiefs first baseman Juan Yepez on Monday was named the Midwest League Player of the Week for April 5-15.

Yepez is off to the league's best offensive start. He tops all Midwest League hitters in five offensive categories, including batting average (.500) and RBIs (11 in nine games). He ranks second in on-base (.543) and slugging (.833) percentage.

Yepez is the first Chiefs position player to win the league's weekly honor since current St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Harrison Bader was honored in August of 2015.

The 20-year-old Yepez was acquired by the Cardinals in May of 2017 in the trade that sent Matt Adams to the Atlanta Braves.

Already this season Yepez has tied a Chiefs franchise record with two triples in a game, hit a go-ahead grand slam in a comeback win and delivered a walk-off double.
