SANDWICH — The quest for a four-peat is still on for the Washington wrestling team.

The three-team defending Class 2A champion Panthers cruised to a 59-9 victory Tuesday against No. 13 Sycamore in the Sandwich Dual-Team Sectional, winning 12 of the 14 weight classes.

Washington, ranked No. 1, will make its sixth consecutive trip to the dual-team state finals Saturday at Grossinger Arena in Bloomington. The Panthers will take on No. 5 Lemont, a 42-33 winner against No. 6 Oak Forest, at 11 a.m.

Washington 220-pound senior Gabe Robison began the dual with a 29-second pin to give the Panthers early momentum. Dylan Cooper followed with a 3-2 decision at 285.

“In duals, momentum is big,” Washington coach Nick Miller said. “We got off to a strong start, just where we started. And guys wrestled really hard.”

A couple forfeits from Sycamore were followed by six more wins for Washington to put the Panthers up 47-0. That stretch included a pin in 1:04 by state runner-up Zeke Hulet against Trevor Boryla, Sycamore’s lone state medalist. Hunter Mamer secured the win with a 6-4 decision at 138.
