Morton now has a new place to buy paint.

Sherwin-Williams has been open for about three weeks in the village at 120 Detroit Ave.

"We're not breaking any records, but considering its early in the year and we're doing a soft opening without an advertising blitz, it's been pretty good," manager Tim Raitt said. "We've got a lot of comments from people being glad that we're here."

The building, which has space for another tenant next door, has been under construction for seven months. Both Sherwin-Williams and the empty building have 4,500 square feet.

While a grand opening is not planned for a few more months, Raitt said the grand opening will be May 10.

"It will feature special sales and some giveaways," he said.

Besides offering a full line of paint, Sherwin-Williams also features plenty of painting supplies, such as rollers, brushes and ladders, along with wallpaper.

"A big portion of our business is contractors, but we pretty much have everything that a do-it-yourselfer would need," he said.

Washington residents have also been coming to Morton to see the supplies.

Raitt said some residents have been purchasing items for homes that weren't a total loss but needed things to put the house back together.

More residents may visit as houses get rebuilt later this year.

Raitt added that he doesn't want him and his four employees to just work the store in Morton.

"We're really excited to be here," he said. "Morton's a great community with a good location. The people have been really nice. We plan on being here a long time and we want to be part of the community. We don't want to just be a storefront here."
