Wet weather slows construction

Construction on the Morton Fire Department's new headquarters on West Courtland and the new pool in Idlewood Park is progressing, but wet weather has certainly slowed the efforts, officials say.

Morton Park District director Gary Watson spoke at Morton Rotary Thursday to discuss the park district's current projects.

He said rain has certainly slowed construction work, but it is still planned to be open by Memorial Day 2010. Digging has been completed in the deep end of the pool where the new high dive will be erected, Watson added.

On Monday, Morton village board trustee Ginger Hermann said wet weather has caused some delays in construction on Morton's new fire station as well. But, the facility is still scheduled to be completed on time.

The National Weather Service in Lincoln reported 4.76 inches of rain fell in June, which is a little less than 1 inch more compared to last June's total. Rain has not subsided early this month either. The NWS predicts above normal precipitation amounts for the rest of July.
