Meet Your Editor

Staff Writer
Morton Times-News
Chelsea Peck-Morton Times-News editor

Chelsea Peck began as the Morton Times-News editor Nov. 10. She covered Dunlap for the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin for six months. She is a 2010 graduate of Illinois State University with a degree in journalism.

Why did you want the Morton Times-News position?

I wanted the editor position because I really like Morton as a community. I know the area fairly well and I believe I can cover the news well. I also wanted the position because I am passionate about the newspaper business. I love communicating with people, writing the stories and designing the paper.

What do you think you can bring to the paper?

I want to bring a fresh pair of eyes to Morton. I hope to bring new excitement and a different angle to stories. If I’m curious about something in “my” new community, the readers may be as well. I’m excited for this new endeavor and I hope to continue to build off of what the previous editors started.

What advice can you give someone interested in working in the newspaper business?

Always continue to write. Keeping your writing fresh and interesting, whether you have a job or not, will make you a better journalist. Also, work hard to create and keep relationships with people in your community.
