Mother charged with murder in 7-year-old daughter's fatal stabbing Sunday in Galesburg

GALESBURG — A mother has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal stabbing of her 7-year-old daughter on Sunday.

According to a Galesburg Police Department news release, police responded to the 1500 block of McKnight Street in reference to an unknown problem with a child. Upon arrival, a 7-year-old female victim was found dead from apparent knife wounds.

A joint investigation was conducted by the Galesburg Police Department, Knox County Sheriff's office, Knox County State's Attorney's Office and the Illinois State Police.

Hazel L. Ivy, 29, has been arrested and charged with murder in the first degree.

As a result of the investigation, the victim's mother, Hazel L. Ivy, 29, has been arrested and charged with murder in the first degree.
