Three Morton High School students were arrested Friday at the school during the men's basketball game vs. Limestone.

According to a Morton Police Department report, Katina Kareotes, 18; William Butler, 18; and Amy Scibona, 18, were drawing attention to themselves in the stands during the Friday night game.

Kareotes was reportedly holding a water bottle that was being passed around between the three students, the report said. She also fell off the bench at one point, the report added.

As the water bottle was being passed around, a police officer noticed the students making eye contact with him.

The officer approached the students and noticed bloodshot eyes as well of an alcohol odor as they spoke, the report said. Kareotes was escorted to the office at the school, at which time she reportedly admitted to drinking vodka.

Butler and Scibona were eventually brought to the office as well, where it was determined the two had also been under the influence of alcohol.

All three were arrested on a count of illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor and subsequently released to their parents by school staff, the report said.

Morton Police Department Deputy Chief Craig Hilliard said police are unsure if the water bottle that was being passed around contained any alcohol.

Students are typically not allowed to carry anything into the gym during sporting events, but Hilliard said that can sometimes be hard to enforce during winter when containers could easily be hidden inside a bulky coat.
