The Morton District 709 Board of Education approved the appointment of Julie Albers as principal of Lincoln School for the 2013-14 school year.

“It’s just special to me to say I’m going to work in the community where I was raised,” Albers said.

She graduated from Morton High School in 1983 and then went to Illinois State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in mass communication in 1987.

She completed an internship at WEEK TV, and was hired as the community relations representative for the Peoria area McDonalds restaurants. Her duties included local store marketing and implementing national corporate activities at the local level. One of her favorite duties was scheduling Ronald McDonald to visit local schools and libraries.

“As I started doing that I decided maybe I hadn’t chosen the right career path,” she said.

Albers then returned to ISU and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education in 1993 and a Master of Science in Educational Administration in 2000.

She started her teaching career as an elementary teacher at Northwest Elementary in Lincoln and then was the assistant principal and athletic director at Thomas Metcalf School, Illinois State University Laboratory Schools. She is currently the principal at Midland Elementary School in Lacon.

She replaces Sheila Taylor. Taylor has accepted a position as principal of an elementary school in Norwalk, Iowa.
