Students earn Legion scholarships
The American Legion Post 318 presented awards to Morton High School students Monday evening.
Three Students received $750 scholarships.
The Ike Reardon Memorial Scholarship went to Taylor Huber.
The Morton American Legion Scholarship was presented to Britianee Griffith.
The Morton Sons of The American Legion Scholarship was awarded to Joseph Zimniak.
The winners were selected from over 60 applicants who submitted an essay on why they deserved the scholarship.
The American Legion Auxiliary also gave out a $1,000 scholarship to Kaleigh Anderson, who is pursuing a career in Nursing.
Also receiving awards were two students who were given Citizenship awards.
These students were nominated by their teachers and staff of Morton High. Nominated Students were then interviewed by Legionnaires who selected the award winners. The winners of The American Legion Post 318 Citizenship Awards were Abbie Fox and Turner Holcombe.
The winners of the Scholarships and Citizenship awards have all been asked to participate in Post 318’s Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m. May 27.
In the past 10 years Morton American Legion Post has given graduating students of Morton High School almost $30,000 in scholarships and awards demonstrating the American Legion’s commitment to the children and youth of our community.
