At the Economic Development Council Lunch Jan. 28, Carol Lindstrom Aupperle was announced as the winner of the Morton Venture Award.

According to the Morton Economic Development Council website, The Morton Venture Award recognizes a Morton business owner who has made a significant impact on the community and the people they employ through their business leadership, growth and innovation.

Aupperle is part owner of Oak Lawn Estates with her two sons, Matt and Mark, and granddaughter Katelyn Pearson.

She purchased an existing mobile home community in 1965 with just 35 sites and has built up the community to have more than 500 today.

"They have 500 homes out there and the town has 6,000, so that's a big part of a population," said co-chairman of Hometown Community Banks Gordon Honneger.

"She mainly is a heck of a businesswoman."

At the beginning, the park was renovated and new rules and policies were introduced.

Oak Lawn has vastly grown over the years and the design has improved with wider streets, curbs, gutters and its own cable system.

The family business is supported by family members spanning three generations.

Her granddaughter, Katelyn, said Aupperle is a strong working woman who is always on the go.

"Grandma would work all day and still have this amazing dinner on the table," Pearson said. "I just don't know how she did it all."

She also wasn't afraid to get down and dirty with the business. Pearson said she remembered seeing pictures of her grandmother down in ditches digging.

"She was shoulder to shoulder with my grandpa and the other guys doing the man's work," said Pearson.

The entrepreneurial mind set of Aupperle has been passed down through the generations.

Pearson said each family member is their own boss in some way or another and are very motivated.

She also gives back to the community with a food drive every year and a coat and hat drive in the winter.

She is a member of the Morton United Methodist Church.

Aside from her successful career in the business field, Aupperle is an adventurous traveler.
