Dorothy Maxine Martin, 88, died at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, 2009, at the Eureka Apostolic Christian Home.
Born July 12, 1920, in Camp Point to Lawrence and Hulda (Rampley) McFarland, she married Edward Arlo Tanner in 1937. She then married Grover Eugene Wertz in 1945 in Peoria. He died Nov. 17, 1961. She later married James Peck Martin in 1968 in Woodland. He died in 1973.
Also preceding her in death were one grandson, Stephen, and one sister, Ann Fletcher.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly Kay Morrical of Washington and Marcia Lynn (Ron) Jacob of East Peoria; one son, David Lawrence (Ellen) Wertz of Bloomington; one stepson, James E. Martin of Charleston; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Janet (Tony) Galisky of Joshua Tree, Calif.
She came to Peoria and worked for Sutliff Case Drug Store and the Peoria Cordage Co. on Washington Street on the assembly line, making rope in the 1940s.
She then worked as a licensed practical private nurse in Peoria and Watseka and last cared for many babies and children in her licensed home day-care center for 40 years.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Cremation was accorded.
Services were Monday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton. Visitation preceded services Monday at the funeral home. Burial of the cremated remains was in Yates City Cemetery at a later date.
