Russell L.”Russ” Fugitt Sr., 72, of  Morton, died at 11:40 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at his home.

Born Jan. 28, 1936, in Peoria to Henry and Jennie (Pickel) Fugitt, he married Betty Boughton Callow Aug. 23, 1975. She survives.

Also surviving are three sons, H. Michael Fugitt of East Peoria, Steven (Sue) Fugitt of Sunnyland and Bruce (Peggy) Fugitt of Groveland; two stepsons,  Gary A. (Diana) Callow of Edwards, and Stephen R. (Jill) Callow of St. Charles, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Jean M. (Thomas) Ksiazek of St. Charles, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Gayle) Fugitt of Lakeview, Ark.; and Bill (Ann) Fugitt of Tacoma, Wash.; and two sisters, Joanne Richie of Peoria and Bonnie Zara of Bradenton, Fla.

Preceding him in death was one son, Russell L. Fugitt Jr., and his parents.

He was a self-employed drywaller and worked 29 years at Keystone Steel & Wire Co. in Bartonville as a wire drawer. He was a former member of the Friendly Neighbors Club and Leisure Acres at Keystone.

He was a member of the East Peoria First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher and was a former trustee of the church. He also assisted with many church functions.

Services are at 1 p.m. Friday at East Peoria First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Mary Arnold will officiate. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home in Morton, and from noon to 12:45 p.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
