TREMONT — John E. Hazelman, 97, died at 8:20 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.

Born April 6, 1912, in Tremont to John and Margaret Kadel Hazelman, he married Eileen Moehring June 30, 1940, in Pekin. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Linda (Don) Hatch of Morton; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were two brothers and six sisters.

He was a 70-year member of Tremont Baptist Church, where he served as trustee for 30 years and was chairman of the building committee when the addition to the church was built. He worked as an operating engineer for R.A. Cullinan & Sons in Tremont for 40 years, retiring in 1983. 

He was a charter member of Kennel Lake Sportsman Club in Morton, where he served on the board of trustees. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Tremont Fire Protection District for 30 years and was a 50-year member of Tremont Masonic Lodge.

Services were Monday at Tremont Baptist Church.  The Rev. Noah Lee officiated.  Visitation was Sunday at Davis Mortuary in Tremont with Masonic services. Additional visitation was Monday, at the church. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery in Tremont.
