W.R. “Bud” Hull, loving husband of Nancy Ann, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010, after a brief illness.

Born Aug. 27, 1926, and raised in Morton, Bud graduated from Morton High in 1944, and like so many of his generation, immediately enlisted to serve his country in World War II.

After serving the U.S. Navy in Pearl Harbor, Bud returned to Morton where he met the love of his life, Nancy, who he courted to the tune of “Winter Wonderland” in December 1947 and married June 5, 1948.

Bud was a 1951 graduate of Bradley University, and a 1952 master’s graduate of University of Illinois-Champaign. After a 36-year career with Caterpillar, Bud retired in April 1990, settling into an idyllic life of travel and relaxation with Nancy as residents of Sun City West, Ariz.

Bud was preceded in death by his dear mother, Mary, who was widowed in 1930, courageously raising him and his two sisters during the depression. He is also preceded in death by his older sister, Ethel (Schmidgall), and one son.

Bud is survived by Nancy, his wife of nearly 62 years; his sister, Margaret (Wirth) of Morton; his sons, John and David; his beloved daughters-in-law, Kathy and Sandie; four grandchildren (Erica (Hull)); brothers, Adam Hull, Josh Sommers and Morgan Sommers; and three great-grandchildren, Owen and Caden Sommers, and Nate Brothers.  He is also survived by many whom he was proud to call colleagues and co-workers from Caterpillar.

Bud’s life will be individually celebrated by all who fondly remember him. In lieu of flowers or other condolences, Nancy has requested that Bud’s memory be honored by donations to his favorite charity, the Phoenix Rescue Mission, 1801 S 35th Ave. Phoenix, AZ 85009.
