MORTON — Doris J. Blair, 83, of Morton, died at 5:45 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2010, at her daughter’s home in Springfield.
Born April 16, 1927, in Peoria, to Henry and Anna (Hartman) Hett, she married William Blair, Jr. on June 23, 1957, in Washington. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 1984. She also was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Surviving are one daughter, Shelley (Christopher) Mueller of Springfield; one son, David (Shelly) Blair of Morton; one stepson, William Blair of Colorado Springs, Colo.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Patricia Apke of Lincoln.
She received her bachelor of science degree in education from Carthage College.
She began teaching in Steward, Ill., in 1949. She then moved to Morton, where she taught English at the junior high school for several years. The major portion of her career was spent at Morton High School where she helped establish the American Studies program. After retiring in 1987, she tutored at-risk students at the high school in a program administered by Illinois Central College.
She was a member of Advent Lutheran Church in Morton and the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Advent Lutheran Church in Morton, with Rev. Dennis O’Brien officiating. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memory Gardens in Morton.
