Obituary: Troy Allen, 52, Groveland

Troy D. Allen, 52, of Groveland, passed away at 8:28 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013, at his residence.

Born July 11, 1960, in Pekin to Dean and Judy (Thompson) Allen, he married Gaylynn Straesser on Sept. 21, 1985, in Morton. She survives.

Also surviving are his mother, Judy Teel of Pekin; his father and stepmother, Dean and Betty Allen of Pekin; one son, Ian Michael Allen of Groveland and one sister, Stacey (Lauren) Fredrickson of Foreston, Minn.

A well respected painter in the Peoria area, Troy owned and operated T. Allen Painting & Decorating for the past 20 years. He previously managed Interiors by Roeckers on Sheridan Road in Peoria for 10 years.

Troy was dedicated to his family and enjoyed supporting his son in scouting and as a Morton High School Band Booster parent. Yard work was one of his passions. He also enjoyed fishing, camping and backpacking.

 He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

His memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013, at Grace United Methodist Church, 601 N. Fourth St., Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Cremation will be accorded.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to an education fund for his son, Ian, in care of CEFCU, 825 South Detroit Ave., Morton, IL 61550.
