Obituary: Bill Thomas, 81, Morton

Bill L. Thomas, 81, of Morton died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.

He was born April 29, 1932, in Greenup to Gerald and Laverne (Devall) Thomas, he married Verna Shofner on Feb. 20, 1960, in Springfield. She survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Cheryl (Bill) Brandenburg of Mackinaw; one son, Irvin (Patricia Jo) Thomas of Greenup; five grandchildren; one aunt, Thelma Bishop of Greenup; and one sister, Marilyn (Tommy) McMillan of Hoopeston.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict.

He was employed at Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria and retired after 36 years of service.

After his retirement, he spent much of his time overseeing his farm interests in the Greenup area.

Visitation was Thursday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Further visitation was Friday at Barkley Funeral Chapels in Greenup. Burial was at Greenup Cemetery.
