Obituary: Daniel Eberle, 98, Morton

Daniel P. “Dan” Eberle, 98, of Morton died at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

Born Jan. 18, 1916, in Speer to Gottlob and Mary (Gehrig) Eberle, he married Cyrene Christner on Aug. 2, 1941, in Peoria. She survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Barbara (John) Seyller of Hawthorn Woods; one son, Ken (Marla) Eberle of Morton; his son-in-law, Kim Hudson of East Peoria; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Hudson; four brothers and eight sisters.

He was a World War II Army veteran.

He worked 35 years for Caterpillar Inc. in East Peoria, retiring as a general foreman in Building LL.

He was a member of the Arcadia Avenue Presbyterian Church of Peoria until the church merged with the First United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, where he and his wife have been members for 72 years. Dan served as an elder.

Services were Saturday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with visitation prior.

The Rev. Stephen McKinney-Whitaker officiated. Burial was at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to WeCare, Inc. in Morton or to the First United Presbyterian Church in Peoria.
