Obituary: Elaine Lindquist, 82, Morton

Elaine B. Lindquist, 82, of Morton, died at 4:38 a.m. Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, at Apostolic Christian Restmor in Morton.

Born Sept. 6, 1931, in Denver, Colo., to Leo Worth and Hazel Ruth (Hardin) Sterling, she married John F. Lindquist on Nov. 2, 1958, in Aurora, Colo. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Lori (John) Walters of Morton; one son, John (Susan) Lindquist of Naperville; seven grandchildren; and one sister, JoAnne (Les) Avery of Aurora, Colo.

She graduated from Aurora High School in Colorado as Valedictorian in 1949. She graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1953 as a Phi Beta Kappa and Magna Cum Laude.

She served with the Women’s Army Medical Corps during the Korean War.

She worked as a dietician at St. Luke’s Hospital in Denver, Colo., and then at the Tazewell County TB Sanitarium in Mackinaw from 1963 until her retirement in the 1970s.

She was a member of Morton United Methodist Church, where she originally formed the prayer chain; was involved with the Stephen Ministry; was a member of the United Methodist Women, Joanna Circle and Nursing Home Ministry and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Services were Feb. 11 at Morton United Methodist Church, with visitation prior. The Revs. Gary Motta and Lori Harvey officiated. Visitation was also Feb. 10 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Burial was at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton, where military rites were conducted.
