Obituary: David Tobias, 50, Morton

David W. Tobias, 50, of Morton, passed away at 11:53 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at UnityPoint Health-Methodist in Peoria.

Born June 30, 1963, in Peoria to Kenneth G. and Viola M. (Kath) Tobias, he married Jill Schertz on May 7, 1988, in Morton. She survives.

Also surviving are two daughters and one son, Leah Tobias, Katie Tobias and Drew Tobias, all at home; and five sisters, Patricia Tobias of Morton, Janet Gidcumb of Phoenix, Ariz., Joan (Allan) Hostetler, Judith Hunt and Linda Tobias, all of Morton.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He graduated in 2002 from Bradley University in Peoria with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

He worked as an accountant for 19 years at McGladrey in Peoria.

He was an assistant coach for the Mystics softball team during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. The 2011 team was 53-3 and won 50 games in a row.

Services were Monday at Grace Church in Morton, with visitation prior. The Revs. Doug Habegger and Kent Smith officiated. Additional visitation was Sunday at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton. Burial was at Hirstein Cemetery in Morton.

Memorials may be made to an education fund for his son, Drew, in care of CEFCU or to Illinois CancerCare in Peoria for cholangiocarcinoma research.
