Obituary: David Mathis, 66, of North Pekin

David R. Mathis, 66, of North Pekin, passed away at 5:34 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, at his home.

He was born Nov. 15, 1948, in Eldorado to Charles and Lois (Sisk) Mathis and married Penny Stidman on Aug. 30, 1996, in Pekin.

Surviving are his wife, Penny Mathis of North Pekin; one son, Andrew Mathis of Mason City; two daughters, Virginia Mathis of Creve Coeur and Katherine (Jeff) Hickman of Spartanburg, S.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Scott Mathis of Creve Coeur and Kim (Becky) Mathis of North Liberty, Iowa; and two sisters, Jan (Charles) Randelman and Amy Mathis, both of Pekin.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Kenneth, and his parents.

David was employed at DAR-Tech Inc. in Morton as a mechanical engineer, specializing in hydraulics, last working in December of 2013. He previously worked for Caterpillar Inc. and Advanced Technology Services in East Peoria.

Cremation has been accorded. A visitation was held April 2 at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, followed by a memorial service.

Memorials may be made to the Tazewell Animal Protective Society in Pekin or to the American Cancer Society or OSF Hospice, both in Peoria.
