Obituary: Chriles VanDeHand, 74, of Morton

Charles W. “Tiny” VanDeHand, 74, of Morton, died at 2:20 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015, at his home.

He was born June 17, 1940, in Peoria to Emil and Parrie (Skaggs) VanDeHand and married Frieda Dubois on Jan. 16, 1965, in Metamora.

Surviving are his wife, Frieda VanDeHand of Morton; two daughters, Beth (Kenneth) Martin of Dunlap and Jill Clark-Graves of Morton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one grandson, Zachary Martin.

He served with the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963.

Charles worked at the Par-A-Dice Casino in East Peoria as a supervisor and an EMT.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Fr. John Raho Council 4194 and American Legion Post 318, all in Morton.

A visitation was held April 7 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton, followed by a funeral Mass officiated by the Rev. Kyle Lucas. A graveside service was held April 7 at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Metamora, where full military rites were conducted.

Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton is handling arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Illinois Cancer Center in Peoria; to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton or to Little Sisters of the Poor, 3225 N. Florissant Ave., St. Louis, MO 63107.
