The Morton Junior High seventh-grade boys basketball team puts its undefeated season on the line tonight.

The Junior Potters play Normal Kingsley (22-1) at 6 p.m. in Kingsley’s gymnasium for the Sectional 5 title.

At stake is a berth in the Illinois Elementary School Association Class 4A state quarterfinals.

MJHS (23-0) advanced to the sectional by thumping East Peoria and Canton last week in the Regional 10 tournament it hosted.

The Junior Potters dispatched East Peoria, 42-14, behind a game-high 14 points from Breck Swinford.

Jacob Morsch delivered 11 points and, along with Joe Kennell, was the team’s assist leader with three.

Kennell and Nick Taylor contributed four steals apiece.

Morton held the Wildcats to four points in the second half.

Canton mustered just one field goal in a 16-minute span in a 44-26 loss to the Junior Potters.

MJHS received team-best totals of 25 points, four steals and three assists from Kennell.

Along with three steals, Swinford collected nine boards and Ian Saatoff snagged five caroms.

Corey Dullard provided nine points for the Matt Yarcho-coached Junior Potters, who celebrated their fourth regional championship in a row.

The Sectional 5 winner plays the Sectional 4 representative (Shorewood Troy or Ottawa Shepherd) at state at 1 p.m. Saturday in Dwight.
