Morton boys seeded second in regional

The Morton boys basketball team was seeded second in the Class 3A Washington Regional.

Here is how the rest of the field lined up for contests to take place March 2, 3, 4 and 6 (title game):

  1. Washington

  3. Metamora

  4. East Peoria

  5. Pontiac

ANALYSIS: State No. 3 Washington is a heavy favorite on its home floor. None of Morton's nine losses have been by more than eight points. East Peoria is behind Metamora despite two wins over the Redbirds (one before the seed meeting). Metamora likely was boosted due to its early-season win over the Panthers. The only matchup this season involving Pontiac among teams in the field was an 18-point Indian loss to Metamora. Washington, winners of 16 of its last 17, is pursuing its fifth straight Mid-Illini Conference and regional crowns. Morton and East Peoria split their regular-season series, with each winning on the road. The Potters also downed Metamora. East Peoria and Pontiac will meet in the lone quarterfinal at Washington. The regional champion advances to meet the winner of the unpredictable Richwoods Regional in the Rock Island Sectional semifinals.
