Eric Meyer’s second appearance lasted one closely-contested match.

The Morton junior was upended, 4-3, by Gideon Yim of Vernon Hills Friday in the Illinois High School Association Class 2A individual wrestling state finals.

The first-round loss in 119 pounds gave Meyer, who also made it to the Assembly Hall in 2007, a career 0-2 mark at state.

When Yim lost in the semifinals in Champaign, Meyer’s productive season ended with a 34-6 record.

Meyer was the champion in the Urbana Invitational, Mid-Illini Conference tournament and Woodruff Regional.

He placed second this winter in the Morton Invitational and LaSalle Sectional.

The good news for the Potter grappler is he will have the opportunity to reach state again in ’10.

Joe Roth of Dixon completed an undefeated senior season by winning the 119 championship.
