The Post 318 Seniors scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to force extra innings.
Will Headean’s walk-off base hit in the 10th gave Morton an improbable victory over Post 140.
Nick Craven threw nine relief innings for the win.
St. Louis Wood Bat Invitational: Morton split four games over the holiday weekend.
Post 318 began with a 3-2 victory over Troy Triad after it scored twice in the top of the seventh inning.
Stefan Sauder’s one-out triple in the final frame tied the game.
Ryan Wenell tossed seven strong innings to gain the win on the mound for Morton.
Nathan Eigsti was masterful against Central Missouri.
He whirled a no-hitter in a 7-0 Post 318 triumph. Eigsti struck out five without walking a batter.
Highland then downed Morton, 2-0, despite a strong start from Headean.
Headean allowed only three hits in a complete game against a ballclub loaded with college baseball players.
Post 318 (14-12) dropped its finale to East Lansing (Mich.), 6-1.
East Lansing also was powerful, with three Michigan State University players on the roster, plus a starter from Big Ten Conference rival Purdue.
“They were much older and stronger than us, but it’s a great experience for our young guys to see what they need to do to get to that level,” Morton Legion general manager Aaron Millard said.
Sixteenth district: Post 318 was awarded the No. 3 seed in the seven-team 16th District tournament, which begins Monday at EastSide Centre.
Morton faces Chillicothe Post 9 at 7 p.m. on the first day.
The winner will meet either second-seeded Washington or No. 5 seed Pekin at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
The Morton-Chillicothe loser plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday against the Washington-Pekin loser.
Olympia landed the top seed. Limestone and Peoria, seeded sixth and seventh, respectively, round out the field.
The Third Division tournament is July 21-24.
Washington, the host, plus the 16th District champion, will be part of the five-team Senior division field.
