Gigantic Morton-Washington matchup tonight

Morton will play for the Mid-Illini Conference boys basketball championship tonight.

A victory at rival Washington (19-5, 10-2) would give the Potters (18-4, 11-1) the outright title.

Even with a loss at Torry Gymnasium, Morton still can at least share the top spot with a win Friday at Metamora.

The Potters' last league crown in boys basketball was in the 2001-02 campaign, when they tied Limestone for first place.

The Panthers won the first 2009-10 meeting at the Potterdome, 66-54, Jan. 19.

Morton was led by Brett Bisping, who had 18 points on 7-of-7 shooting. Mark Roth paced the visitors with 17, 14 of which came in the first half.

One of Washington's top offensive and defensive players, senior Robert Izaguirre, has been sidelined with a back injury since Jan. 30.

A 50-49 loss vs. Canton Feb. 2 snapped the Panthers' 45-game winning streak in Mid-Illini home games.

The Potters won in their most recent trip to Washington, 46-44, in last year's Class 3A Washington Regional final.
