MJHS eighth at Glenwood Invite

The Morton Junior High wrestling team placed eighth Feb. 13 at the Glenwood Middle School Invitational.

Ryan Brooks led the Junior Potters, who compiled 126 points as a team, with a title in 65 pounds.

He defeated Culton Ruey of Canton Ingersoll in a 7-3 decision for the championship.

Brandon Bland of MJHS was the runner-up in 75 after winning three bouts.

Six other Morton wrestlers — Kyle King, Brock Kelley, Reid Butler, Clay Cone, Austin Weyland and Jordan Case — also finished in the top six.

Bloomington, which won six of the 14 brackets, was the team champion.

In a pair of close duals Thursday, the Junior Potters defeated Lincoln and lost to Petersburg PORTA.

Against Lincoln in a 46-39 victory, Butler, Cone, Weyland, Dakota Hefner, Case, Ryan Brooks, Bland and Kelley all were winners.

Cone, Weyland, Bland and Kelley all landed pins.

In Morton’s 42-36 wrestling loss to PORTA, Butler, Weyland, Hefner, Case, Brooks, King and Kelley all prevailed.

Butler, Case and Kelley were credited with pins.
