Seniors help secure resounding victory

Notre Dame succeeded in a high-profile non-conference boys basketball game Feb. 16 at Morton.

The Potters lost their second consecutive contest, 65-50, as the visiting Irish pulled away in the fourth quarter.

Three Morton players were in double figures. Tyler Lundeen had 12 points and Brett Bisping and Will Headean 11 apiece.

Notre Dame’s Max Bielfeldt led all scorers with 23 points.

The Irish joined the Potters with 17 victories on the season.

It was 42-36 after three quarters before ND put the game out of reach.

MHS 78, Limestone 60

The Potters crushed the Rockets Friday to set up a Mid-Illini Conference showdown.

Eight Morton seniors were recognized and all 14 players participated in the team’s second win this year over Limestone.

Lundeen poured in a game-high 32 points, which included a 9-for-9 effort at the free-throw line

The Potters wound up 8-2 on their home floor in 2009-10.

Austin Bates chipped in seven points for Morton and Bisping and Headean both tallied six.

Five others added at least four points for the Potters.

The undermanned Rockets were paced by Tyler Ashby’s 17 points.

The Morton seniors are: Zach Fisher, Tate Anderson, Adam Kumpf, Eric Waibel, Austin Voeller, Matt McClain, Drake Taphorn and Bates.

The conference rivals will meet again in the postseason.
