Clark earns academic, athletic honors
Illinois Wesleyan University senior softball player Emma Clark has been elected to the first team of the Capital One Academic All-District 7 softball team and will be on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America team, where first, second, and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
The District 7 team includes players from Division-III schools in Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.
Clark, a third baseman from Morton, has a 3.47 grade-point average as a business (marketing) major.
She is batting .398 through May 1 with 37 RBI and has tied her own season record with 10 home runs.
She currently has the school record for home runs (30) and slugging percentage (.701).
Clark is a member of the Order of Titans academic-athletic honorary and was academic all-conference.
Clark is a 2009 Morton High School graduate. As a Potter softball player, she was a career .323 hitter with 123 RBI in four varsity seasons. Clark was a three-time first-team all-Mid-Illini Conference pick.
The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District softball teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their performances athletically and in the classroom. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale).
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the U.S. and Canada.
Clark also was selected first-team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
She was fourth in conference games with a .425 average and tied for second with a .725 slugging percentage. She had three doubles, three home runs and 15 RBI.
Clark also was a first team all-CCIW player in 2011 and earned second-team status last year.
IWU was 30-7 entering the weekend conference tournament.
