Morton boys seek M-I tennis crown

Morton capped a flawless Mid-Illini Conference boys tennis season with an April 30 home win.

The Potters stopped East Peoria's four-match victory streak in league play with an 8-1 decision in which they did not lose in singles.

Trent Reiman (6-0, 6-2), Taylor Nave (6-1, 6-0), Chandler Stimpert (6-0, 6-0), Jonah Laktas (6-4, 7-6), Jake Bernier (6-1, 6-3) and Kyle King (4-6, 6-1, 10-3) won for Morton in singles.

In the doubles portion, the Potters' Nos. 2 and 3 tandems of Trent Reiman/Bernier (6-0, 6-1) and Grant Reiman/Andrew Payne (6-4, 6-1), respectively, both prevailed.

The Potters earned their second straight 6-0 mark in conference duals.

The Potters thrashed the Silver Streaks May 1 on Senior Day.

Morton did not lose a set to the visitors from Knox County.

In singles, Nave (6-1, 6-2), Stimpert (6-0, 6-0), Laktas (6-0, 6-1), Bernier (6-1, 6-1), Payne (6-0, 6-0) and King (6-1, 6-1) were winners.

Laktas/Stimpert (6-2, 6-2), Nave/Payne (6-0, 6-0) and Scott Kieser/Caleb Roecker (6-2, 6-2) were the victorious Potter doubles combinations.

Conference: The Mid-Illini tournament begins at 2 p.m. Friday in Dunlap. Limestone is the host this year.

At 6-0 in league duals, Morton needs to at least tie Metamora to achieve its first league championship since 2006 and end the Redbirds' six-year title streak.
