Morton junior infielder Casey Brunton went 2-for-3 with an RBI May 22 during the softball team's 12-0 thrashing of Canton in five innings in the Class 3A Morton Regional semifinals. The 12th-ranked Potters finished 24-9 after a 6-4 championship-game loss Tuesday vs. No. 5 East Peoria.

Morton won the rubber game with the Canton softball team in convincing fashion May 22.

The Potters scored five runs in the first and second innings to destroy the Lady Giants, 12-0, in the Class 3A Morton Regional semifinals.

Nicole Koch tossed a five-inning shutout. She allowed three hits and no walks, while striking out five.

Six of No. 2-seed Morton's 14 hits went for extra bases.

Taylor Namanny led the charge with a two-run double in the first inning and a three-run home run in the second.

The other six hitters comprising the top seven in the Potters' order — Chandler Ryan, Koch, Kelsi Dahms, Casey Brunton, Nikki Eigsti and Bridget Serrurier — had two hits as well.

Both of Ryan's hits were doubles and she drove in two runs. Dahms also had a two-base hit and two RBI.

Koch, Brunton and Eigsti added RBI as well. The latter player doubled.

By the end of the second inning, Ryan already had batted three times.

Third-seeded Canton won the first game April 29 between the foes, 12-2, in five innings before Morton prevailed, 2-1, May 14.

The Potters were ranked No. 12 in the final Illinois Coaches Association 3A softball state poll.

Postseason: Morton lost to fifth-ranked East Peoria, 6-4, Tuesday in the regional championship game.

The contest was suspended Saturday with the Potters ahead 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning. The Raiders rallied Tuesday when it was resumed behind three home runs.

East Peoria moved on to the Limestone Sectional semifinals Wednesday against Metamora.
