Justine Szetela’s new softball team beat her old one on April 7.

Morton led from the first inning on as it began Mid-Illini Conference play with a 4-2 victory over Metamora at Birchwood Park.

Chandler Ryan and Jadison Wharram both launched solo home runs for the Potters.

Ryan and Serrurier had two hits apiece for the Potters, and Jessica Case and Jocelyn Nimmo drove in runs.

In a five-hit complete game, Morton’s Alexis Opel allowed one earned run. She struck out five and walked two.

The hosts pushed across a key insurance run when Wharram went deep to lead off the sixth.

Szetela, the Potters’ first-year head coach, was a member of the Redbirds’ 2010 Class 3A state title team.

Lincoln 8-12, MHS 0-2

The Railsplitters took both games of a doubleheader from the Potters on Saturday.

Morton (3-5) was held to a combined four hits on the road.

A Case double was the only hit in an opener that featured Lincoln scoring in every inning but the third.

Three of the eight runs charged to Opel in a complete game were unearned. She yielded nine hits and two walks, while striking out one.

In the second game, Mooney and Wharram doubled, with the latter also driving in a run.

Case added a sacrifice fly for the Potters.

Wharram took the loss in the circle. The Railsplitters ended the game with two outs in the fifth. Lincoln was aided by three unearned runs.
