Pleasants, Bakirdan win once at Pontiac Sectional

Two Morton wrestlers won postseason matches over the weekend.

Junior Gabe Pleasants and senior Kartal Bakirdan both went 1-2 in the Class 2A Pontiac Sectional.

Pleasants (29-8) reached the semifinals at 138 pounds before back-to-back losses.

He opened with a 4-0 victory over Amier Khamis of New Lenox Lincoln-Way West.

Next, the Potter lost, 8-4, to Justin McGady of Belvidere.

A 6-4 defeat to Sandwich's Patrick Crothers ended the season for Pleasants.

Bakirdan (22-14) surrounded two losses at 160 with a win.

He recovered from a loss to Jake Harris of Canton by edging Marengo's Kyle Gara, 4-3.

Parks of Maple Park Kaneland registered a 10-0 major decision to eliminate Bakirdan from state contention.

Correction: The results furnished by regional host East Peoria Feb. 8 were not correct.

Reid Butler of Morton in fact finished fourth at 145, losing the third-place match to Notre Dame's Isaiah Stedwill.
